"It's not sliced bread, but it sure is butter."
The book is a quick-read, like a magazine, which is good if you
are ADD. It's laid out super cool too, lots of things to look at: pictures,
text boxes, trick tips, quotes, etc.
230-plus pages of realness is the best way to describe it. The people
are real, the stories are real, and the devotionals come from real life situations.
The pictures are definitely real- no posers here! And above all
else, found at the center of the whole devotional book, is a very real God,
who changed and rearranged the lives of a bunch of bums and beggars, and decided
to call them His children...now that's real.
There are over 20 devotionals in this book, all short and compact, yet packed
with a lot of information to chew on. They aren't easy to swallow though,
as STR team pastor David Tolentino calls it like it is. Seek God about
each devotional and you will begin to see some pretty big changes in your
life.
The stories are amazing and each one comes from a person who, at one time
or another, has been used by God to make SouthTown what it is today.
They come straight from the gut; nothing blown up to be more dramatic than
it is and no twisting the truth to make it more appealing. The authors
of each story put their hearts on the page, so have the hanky handy. There
might just be a few snotty-nosed, teary-eyed readers out there!
Pictures are mind blowing and come from some of the most talented people
we know.
Believe this though: they are all real, and they are all just like you.
It took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get to where our riders are, but
it's worth it. We get to take the talents and skills God has given us,
turn them around, and praise Him with them. We can only do what we do because
of Jesus.
